Hephaestue is home to a variety of people; men, women, children, slaves, and foreigners. All of which have jobs that they are needed to fulfill in order to make Hephaestue a great place for everyone. Although this city-state depends on all of its inhabitants to enable it to run as smoothly as possible, some people are above others on the chain of importance, which means that, based on gender, age, and ethnicity, there would be a different variety of options in things that said person would be able to do. For example, in order to be a citizen you would have to be male, born in Hephaestue, and above the age of 18, and if you were not born there, you would have to had lived there a minimum of 5 years. Although, even if they would technically become a citizen, they would not have the same opportunities as men who were born inside of this city-state. The hierarchy among the citizens would be the king and the leaders of each Council. In the city-state as a whole, however, it would consist of all men, over the age of 18, that were born in the city-state.
Roles and Responsibilities
Men: Men have a different set of roles and responsibilities than women. Every male in Hephaestue is required to go to school, starting at the age of 5, until they are 14 years old. It is then that the make the decision on whether they would join the military and train until the age of 18, or remain in school and be given different options for what they can do. It is obligatory for every man in the city-state to be apart of social life, as well as the government. It is vital for them to voice their opinions in every Assembly meeting, as it ensures that every citizen gets a say in all decisions. Men can pursue a life in the government if they so wish, but it is not required to go any further than the Assembly. If they do not desire to move up the chain of command, then they can be a philosopher, an artist, or a man of business, the options are endless.
Women: Although women have some options in what they are able to do, they do not have as much a variety in their choices as men do. Since they cannot become citizens, they are not able to take part in the government in any way. Their options are to either marry, or go into the business industry. If the fist option is chosen, they would be in charge of taking care of the children, as well as maintaining the house. Some things they would be required to do was weave, cook, and keep the home clean. If they chose the latter option, then they would be able to live on a piece of property in their own name and create a business of their choosing. Other than these to possibilities, there is nothing else a woman would be able to do. Women may join the military after five years residing in the city, and would act as doctors, nurses, cooks, and spies.

Our large population is due to the large area in and around our city state. The land can support this amount of people, (as shown by Izmir's 2.8 million person population today). We need such a large military because of our close borders with the Persian Empire, always looking to seek out more land. Our allies reflect this as well, having exports that can help sustain a large military, as well as having strong militaries themselves.
